Prof. Xiaolong Hu
Professor Hu is teaching two courses at Tianjin University: a graduate-level course, Research Methodology in Optical Engineering (course number: S2020005), and an undergraduate-level course, Fundamentals of Optoelectronics (course number: 2020634). Both courses are offered in English and in the spring semester. From time to time, Professor Hu has been inviting outstanding researchers worldwide to Tianjin University to give seminars and lectures.
Methodology of Conducting Scientific Research in Optical Engineering (course number: S2020005)
This course is a one-credit course, mainly for graduate students majoring in optical engineering, although it is also broadly suitable for students in other majors. The course covers the key skills and non-technical knowledge needed for graduate students, including reading papers, writing, presenting, collaboration, and research ethics. The course is designed to be very interactive and to practically help students boost their capability for effectively conducting scientific research. The course is offered entirely in English.
Fundamentals of Optoelectronics (course number: 2020634)
This course is a three-credit course for undergraduate students majoring in optical engineering. The course covers the key concepts and devices in optoelectronics, with particular emphasis on the principles of the optical resonators, optical amplifiers, lasers, photo-detectors, and modulators. By learning this course, students will be able to understand the nature of light and photons, how they interact with matter, and how the light-matter interactions lead to the indispensable devices in the field of modern optoelectronics. The course is offered entirely in English. See the course map here.
